| History of the World |
Five elven noble houses once dwelled within the kingdom of Caladarn, all of which served the royal family loyally. Neighboring the human kingdom of Alaelith; their relations were good and trade was frequent. Where Caladarn possessed endless spring and summer, Alaelith was a land of fall and winter. The immortal King Sailatar ruled the elven lands since time could recall. Fair and wise, kind and compassionate – he was loved by his subjects: with the exception of one by the name of Dúrion. The head of House Delior coveted the crown, believing himself to be more suited than Sailatar. So strong was his desire that the passage of time only seemed to amplify it. As Dúrion became consumed by that obsession, his heart began to darken. And, as it haunted his every moment: an answer came in the form of dreams. Dead whispers from things long forgotten and locked away. Instructing him, guiding him towards a path: one that sought to manipulate Dúrion to gain both freedom and power. The dreams taught him secrets: wicked things, forbidden magic and the art of deceit. Molding him, corrupting him – setting him on a path that would ultimately lead to devastation. All of House Delior fell in line with Dúrion, those that refused were eliminated. And, as they schemed, their ambitions were driven further. It was no longer enough to become royalty, instead they desired more. The deification of their house; to become akin to living gods. Thus, behind the scenes they weaved their deceptions, reaching out to the mortals of Alaelith and using what the dreams taught them to win favor: and eventually their devotion. By the time King Sailatar uncovered their dark path, House Delior had fled to Alaelith. There, they hid – continuing to weave influence amongst the locals and gain their loyalty. In time, they would find themselves with enough forces to conquer those lands – with the help of their dreams to guide them. Still, the question remained: how much of that influence was the work of House Delior? Those same visions extended beyond that elven house; reaching out into the minds of the humans and weaving its magic. Once House Delior took the throne of Alaelith, their influence was far reaching. From the lands they dwelled upon, to their own essence: everything became foul and corrupt. As the lands darkened, the humans began to wake from whatever hold House Delior had upon them. Frightened by the transformation, some fled – seeking refuge within the lands of Caladarn. King Sailatar was hesitant to allow them in due to their exploitable weaknesses. After all, their actions led to their own lands becoming defiled and completely unlivable to mortals. Thus they had to prove themselves; fighting alongside the elves of Caladarn against Alaelith. It was through their loyalty in battle that they redeemed themselves, the king allowing them to remain so long as they assisted. If they ever ceased taking part in protecting Caladarn? They would be exiled from the lands. Fighting amongst both kingdoms became commonplace; moments of war met with periods of silent uncertainty. This is how things remained for over a thousand years. It was only when whatever darkness whispered to House Delior grew silent that Caladarn was able to eventually defeat Alaelith. However, the cost of that victory was severe: King Sailatar fell in battle and Vanimon, his eldest son, took the throne in the aftermath. Alaelith’s lands remained vacant, unlivable – with the exception of the corrupted, nightmarish creatures that aimlessly roamed the lands. It would remain this way until King Vanimon found himself betrayed by his younger brother, Morohtar. Much has occurred over the last two thousand years. Unhappy with her cold and loveless relationship; King Vanimon’s wife found comfort in his younger brother Morohtar. This relationship would inevitably lead to the fracturing of the elven kingdom. Passage of time hadn’t completely healed the kingdom from the loss of its previous ruler. Neither son lived up to expectation; though opinion was split on which brother was an acceptable replacement. As always, there were those that sought to ally with whomever they thought would most benefit their family. Some of the commoners clung to Morohtar, believing that siding with him would help improve their lives greatly. Those most willing to make a sacrifice believed they would be rewarded greatly for their actions. This led to Morohtar and his faction fleeing the kingdom of Caladarn, setting up residence in Alaelith. There they uncovered the same forbidden magic obtained by House Delior. Studying, preparing, and practicing those dark arts – leading to them ultimately being corrupted in the same fashion. There they continued to attempt to seduce more to their cause; some targets more successful than others. Several wars have raged between the two kingdoms since that fracture, all inevitably leading to the dark forces being pushed back into Alaelith. All the while Morohtar took King Vanimon’s former bride as his own and set himself up as king. There they scheme against the King of Caladarn, hoping and waiting for the day that they can take it for their own. If that day were to come, both lands would be poisoned in the same fashion as Alaelith. As of now, there is an uneasy standstill – each side watching and waiting carefully for the first sign of war renewed. |
| The Kingdom of Caladarn |
Caladarn: the kingdom of light, possessing eternal spring and summer. Home to the high elves, though humans and wood elves reside within it as well. A home originally founded for immortal beings, their architecture is known to last for centuries on end. Rich in culture and history, it was the late King Sailatar that helped establish their homeland and way of life. A great ruler that emphasized the importance of intelligence and purity. They believe the Goddess protects the kingdom: the one that sees to their lifestyle and assures the land forever sustains them. There is no desert to be found; merely lush green lands and eternal forests. It is a stark contrast to the dark kingdom of Alaelith. The high elves allow the humans and wood elves to dwell within their kingdom in peace. Likewise, they are considered citizens, thus they are required to obey the laws and serve the upper class just like the lower class high elves. Humans and wood elves have been given their own towns to dwell within, courtesy of the high elves themselves. Though they are not restricted to those areas. All of the territories within Caladarn are as follows: . Glawardor (Royal family - Amathel) Most settlements have some sort of place dedicated to the worship of the Goddess. Whether it is a temple in a big city or a small shrine within a town, there is something always there to remind them of their favored creator and protector. |

| Conflict |
| There is a history of conflict between Caladarn and Alaelith. Currently, the high elves are working on a means of keeping the dark forces out of their territory. This comes in the form of a large, magic imbued barrier between the two kingdoms. Though, powering such a grand concept will take time and energy. There's also the trick of maneuvering it in a means that doesn’t delve into darker territory, thus corrupting all those involved in the formation. All of the noble houses are doing their part, using their resources and ingenuity to find an answer to this question. Given their nature, they cannot even fathom doing anything that goes into the area of darker arts. Those that would consider it are likely in the beginning stages of joining the corrupted over in Alaelith. Currently things are at an odd standstill. That doesn’t mean that Caladarn isn't vigilant. Conflict is likely to break out at any given time. All that either kingdom needs is a reason to gather their forces. |
